Heartstopper began as a webcomic by Alice Oseman and
grew into a series of graphic novels, a Netflix show, and now a finale film,
Heartstopper Forever. At heart it follows two boys at an English
secondary school who meet, become friends, and slowly realise it might be
something more.
What makes it special is how gentle it is. There is no cruelty
driving the plot, no tragedy waiting to punish anyone for being themselves.
Instead there is warmth: friendships that hold, families that try, and queer
joy treated as something ordinary and worth celebrating. It lets its
characters be nervous and awkward and kind, and it trusts small moments to
carry big feelings.
It is the kind of story you finish and want to text a friend
about — comforting, hopeful, and quietly brave.

The characters
A cast worth caring about. These are our own fan notes — no
likenesses, just little doodles and a lot of fondness.
Charlie Spring
the thoughtful one
Quiet, drummer, easily worried about being too much for the people he
loves. Charlie feels everything deeply and tries hard to be brave even
when he is scared. Watching him let himself be cared for is one of the
most tender threads in the whole story.
Nick Nelson
the kind one
Warm, sporty, and quietly figuring himself out. Nick is the sort of
person who notices when someone is left out and does something about it.
His journey of understanding who he is — and choosing tenderness over the
expectations around him — is handled with real care.
Elle Argent
the artist
Creative, funny, and full of quiet confidence. Elle starts a new chapter
at a different school and builds a bright new circle of friends while
staying close to her old ones. She brings colour to every page she is on,
and her steadiness makes everyone around her braver.
Tao Xu
the loyal one
Film-obsessed, loud in the best way, and fiercely protective of his
friends. Tao wears his heart on his sleeve and is often the first to worry
when the group starts to change. Underneath the big reactions is someone
who just really does not want to lose the people he loves.
Isaac Henderson
the reader
Almost always with a book, watching the world with a thoughtful calm.
Isaac gives the friend group its quiet centre, and his own slow path to
understanding himself is drawn with patience and honesty. A gentle
reminder that not everyone's story looks the same, and that is okay.
Tara Jones
the warm one
Confident, generous, and easy to root for. Tara moves through the world
with a self-assurance that helps others feel safe, especially when they
are still finding their own footing. Her relationship is one of the
steadiest, sweetest things in the story.
Darcy Olsson
the spark
All jokes and mischief on the surface, with a lot of heart just beneath
it. Darcy is the friend who lightens every room, and the story takes care
to show the tender, uncertain feelings that the humour sometimes hides.
Impossible not to love.
Moments we love
The small beats that live in your chest for a while. Described
in our own words, the way you'd tell a friend about them.
a small word
A quiet "hi"
Sometimes the biggest moment is the smallest word. A single hello across
a room can carry the whole weight of hoping someone is glad to see you.
The story is full of these — tiny, easy-to-miss beats that turn out to be
the ones you remember most.
winter
The snow
Two boys flat on their backs in a snowy field, drawing with their whole
bodies — arms sweeping, laughing at the sky, turning a cold morning into
a canvas. It is play, but it is also the moment you can see how easy they
are together, how being side by side is already its own kind of answer.
when hands touch
The sparks
When their hands brush, the page itself lights up — little hand-drawn
sparks jumping into the air, as if two hearts connecting made the world
crackle. The loveliest thing is that the sparks never stay on the page:
they leap off the panel, out of the screen, and land somewhere in your
chest too.
friendship
Being held by your friends
For all the romance, some of the most moving moments are the friendships:
people showing up, sitting with each other through the hard parts, and
making room for everyone to be exactly who they are. It is a story that
believes being cared for is not weakness — it is the whole point.
